At ROOTS we believe that well-being and happiness must come first then the learning will follow. Our immediate aim is to develop trusting relationships through a trauma informed lens, using relational approaches. We want to gain a good understanding of both the students’ and families’ needs. Our staff team are trained in co-regulation guided by the science around our nervous systems.
The outdoor environment is integral to our work at ROOTS. Research shows the powerful impact that being in nature can have on mental health and happiness.
We have two dogs that regularly come into the centre. We value the contribution that having animals bring to our work at ROOTS, helping with co-regulation, encouraging exercise and helping students to feel a sense of belonging and an unconditional positive regard.
Whilst most students enjoy working alongside animals we fully appreciate that for some students this might not be the case. We are very mindful of this and the students are always our priority.
